From 15 Years in a Garage to a 9-Second Pass
The 440 engine sat in its owner’s garage for 15 years before being installed in the Barracuda over the winter. The goal was simply to see what the combination would do. On its first day at the track, it delivered a 9.95-second quarter-mile pass at 135 mph.
Despite the performance, this is not an exotic race-fuel engine. With 10.5:1 compression, factory-style iron 906 cylinder heads and a small roller camshaft, the 440 runs on pump gas.
